TrendForce said that since the second quarter of this year, thanks to the upward increase in server shipments, the purchase of enterprise SSDs has also increased. Among them, the 8TB capacity of the data center has the most significant growth, and it is estimated that this growth trend will continue into the third quarter. However, due to the tight foundry capacity, SSD-related components may be under-supply. Therefore, TrendForce has raised the quarterly increase in the contract price of enterprise SSDs in the third quarter to 10-15% from the original estimate of 5-10%.
TrendForce further pointed out that the reasons for the strong demand for enterprise SSDs in the third quarter are mainly due to the end of the inventory adjustment of North American data centers, the continuous expansion of storage capacity, and the increase in the information budgets of government agencies and small and medium-sized enterprises around the world for servers and other related information. , The order volume has picked up quarter by quarter. In addition, with the mass production of new platforms of Intel and AMD, the demand for data computing and storage has increased, prompting SSD capacity to shift to 4/8TB, allowing data center customers to increase capacity density To optimize the cost of construction.
Samsung ranks first in the supply of enterprise SSDs, and will take the lead in product pricing
From the perspective of various suppliers, in the face of the possibility of insufficient supply of some parts, only Samsung is expected to expand its enterprise SSD product market share, mainly because the proportion of Samsung's self-made parts is better than other suppliers, so SSD The elasticity of supply is relatively high. If calculated by the number of bits shipped, Samsung's supply of North American data centers in the third quarter is expected to exceed 50%, which will further consolidate its price-leading ability.
However, Intel is still experiencing production bottlenecks due to insufficient supply of PMICs, coupled with the tendency to accept orders for QLC products, and doubts about the decline in market demand for TLC products; as for Kioxia, SK Hynix and other companies, despite the market The share has increased as customers gradually introduce products, but there is still a gap with Samsung.
As for the PC client SSD part, the current demand for laptops continues to be strong, but the supply of SSD controller ICs is still tight. TrendForce expects that the contract price of client SSDs in the third quarter will continue to rise slightly, with a quarterly increase of about 3 ~8%. However, the transfer speed of the original manufacturing process has not slowed down. 176-layer products will still be available in the third quarter, and the upstream supply level will also increase quarter by quarter.
Enterprise SSD purchasing capacity climbs, and it is estimated that the price of the third quarter will increase by more than 10%.|TrendForce
