IC Insights expects global NAND flash capital spending to increase 8% this year to $29.9 billion

According to IC Insights data, global NAND flash capital expenditure is expected to increase by 8% to $29.9 billion in 2022, a record high, surpassing the all-time high of $27.8 billion in 2018.

IC Insights pointed out that since the transition of the flash memory industry to 3D NAND in 2017, the global flash memory capital expenditure has surged. In 2017, the NAND capital expenditure increased by 89% year-on-year to US$27.2 billion. Since then, the global NAND flash memory expenditure has exceeded US$20 billion every year. In 2022, the capital expenditure of flash memory is expected to grow to 29.9 billion US dollars, which is expected to account for 16% of the overall IC industry capital expenditure of 190.4 billion US dollars for the whole year, accounting for 41% after foundry. IC Insights expects the global NAND flash industry capital expenditure growth rate of 8% this year will be significantly lower than 13% in 2021, and a slowdown from 9% in 2020.
